THanks Josh!! OYu put it so well, how I feel about certin issues. Particularly my keeping my place clean!!:) I love Him!!! Praise His name!! But can’t seem to get it togetehr as far as leaning up my place, and I am letting it drain me spiritually!!! FOund you through googling…. Are all Christians clean? I’m a mess!:) LOVE AND PEACE AND HAIR GREASE TTO!!! XOXOXOXO floflo!! you sister in Christ. May God continue to bless oyu and lead you to the right chirch. I would like to have your permission to use your list in the writing of my Master’s Degree Thesis on “How Visitors are Treated in Churches.” I have been visiting churches each Sunday for about 10 months (with my own little survey), and it is amazing how differently each one welcomes (or ignores) the guests. Your list hits the highlights, but we know there are so many more ways in which a church can encourage outsiders to “give them a shot” when searching for a home church. Great post. Thanks!

How true and real your description is of the church today. Pastors are more worried about “cheeks in the seat” than souls in Heaven. I sounded that way too before I really understood what actual relationship with Jesus meant. I’m sure you are implying what pastors need to do to in order to attract and retain members. All that needs to be done:
Point people to the law and how our sin seperates us from God.
Point to Jesus Christ as our Saviour and the only way to Heaven.
Teach the filling of the Holy Spirit.
and then live it, live it, live it, live it!!!!!

Some great things you said, but you set yourself up as kind of thin-skinned; waiting for the offense so you can write another church off your list. Are your expectations realistic, or just idealistic? The church is a strange place at times, and the things you mentioned will not go away altogether, ever. (At least until the parousia).

A casual read of the NT should prove my point- apostolic christianity was faced with quite a mess.

God has through the years moved me to several different areas, so I’ve been blessed to have been able to meet a lot of different pastors and missionaries, and the one thing I’ve picked up on, is that they all are so involved in their craving to accomplish, what it is they see God has for them to do for Him, that they are totally obscure to the interest and needs of others. Unless it fits into their present undertaking, you can expect a total lack of interest, and very little, if any of their attention. if you have nothing to offer them, they have no time for you.
This often leaves a lot of doors shut, that could offer much help and many opportunities.

Showing you care… but it must be done within the confines of true biblical love for others. In Jesus’ description of His judgement of the sheep and the goats… neithter knew that they were doing or not doing. The unrigtheous did it out of their lack of love, and the righteous did it out of their love. Both were expressions of themselves, but without their realizing it. Jesus John 13:35) others will know we are His disciples when we express love for one another.

Caring for others should be an expression of who we are, and not an intentional effort for the purpose of bring new people to our church.
